22° 15.008' N 75° 45.173' W 21 Feb 2019 18:24 None None None Hog Cay, Jumentos, Bahamas. After hearing so many good things about this southern most anchorage, we finally are here. The anchorage does live up to its billing. Very large anchorage with 2 very pretty crescent beaches. Holding is excellent in 10 feet of sand with no stray coral and for the first time since leaving Long Island we have cell coverage from nearby Duncan Town. There are 8 other boats here and no fishermen. There is room for many more boats without feeling crowded. Have yet to go ashore and to check things out.
22° 21.258' N 75° 48.815' W 18 Feb 2019 09:30 None None None Raccoon Cay, Jumentos, Bahamas. Another day another island. Raccoon is only about 4-5 miles south of Buena Vista. First time we have had an anchorage and an island to ourselves in the Jumentos. No fisherman and no cruisers. Many signs of an old salt making operation as well as crumbling rock house foundations and walls. Beautiful in a very stark sort of way. Hard to imagine eking out a living here. No signs of fresh water or soil suitable for growing anything. We looked for any sign of old paths to get over to the ocean side but only saw goat trails leading to and from the old salt pond. Still thinking about Hog Cay for tomorrow. It is supposed to be the most popular anchorage and only a few miles north of Duncan Town so there may be a cell signal.
22° 25.525' N 75° 50.18' W 17 Feb 2019 09:30 None None None Buena Vista Cay, Jumentos, Bahamas. Moved a bit south to Buena Vista Cay today. Longest beach in the Jumentos so we had a nice walk. Found a path over to the Ocean side of the island. Amy found two hamburger beans but complained that there were a lot of signs of bean hunters before her. Lobster for dinner again tonight. We'll probably move south again tomorrow and the next day to find a good spot for the expected strong winds mid-week. All is good.
22° 28.683' N 75° 50.765' W 16 Feb 2019 18:34 None None None Nurse Cay, Jumentos, Bahama. Enjoyed Flamingo. Walked across the island and had a picnic at the Northern anchorage which would be a lovely spot in east wind. Two of the fishing boats from Water Cay anchored near by and we went over and bought some lobster and gave them the latest weather report and some old books. They were very pleased. Nurse Cay is another nice spot. Did some beachcombing and also caught up with Whisper who is anchored south of us. Very calm and peaceful.
22° 53.039' N 75° 52.136' W 14 Feb 2019 18:18 None None None Flamingo Cay, Jumentos, Bahamas. Last night was interesting to say the least. A squall came through at midnight and caused havoc in the anchorage where four Bahamian fishing boats, Whisper whom we met in Long Island, and we were anchored. Feeling a bump from our skeg, we promptly moved and re-anchored.Amy and I alternated keeping anchor watch for the remainder of the night and fortunately no squalls reappeared. More squalls are forecast for tonight so we spent plenty of time this afternoon at Flamingo finding a good spot and setting our anchor extra well. Although it is quite overcast the anchorage has a beautiful sandy beach and would be lovely on a blue sky day. Another Bahamian fishing boat is keeping us company.
