° 30.82' N 75° 44.65' W 14 Nov 2017 15:19 None None None Sand Dollar Beach, Georgetown, Great Exuma. As we came through the cut and had our first glimpse of Elizebeth Harbor we were shocked to find less than 10 anchored boats where in peak season there are 300-400.We knew we were early but we and the few cruisers who are here as well as bar tenders and shop owners are also a bit surprised by the small number of boats especially given the hurricane damage to the Caribbean. We're quite happy to enjoy the peace and quiet, the beautiful beach walks and the good protection. We have arranged a mooring in one of the hurricane holes for our trip home in December. Still have not firmed up our next steps when we return after the first of the year.
° 51.22' N 75° 7.26' W 11 Nov 2017 22:01 None None None Very nice downwind sail to Conception in 15-20. Great to be here. Again we are the only boat.
° 2.835' N 74° 32.044' W 08 Nov 2017 19:44 None None None Landfall in San Salvador, Bahamas. The assumed location of Columbus' first landing in the Americas. Six days from Norfolk and a good sailing passage. A different landfall than expected but when the wind changes it's mind you have to go where it takes you. Shango and crew may make some changes to their winter in the Caribbean plan! So far San Salvador looks very much like Rum Cay. Fine for easterly winds but no place to be in west winds accompanying a cold front. We should be OK for a while. But will watch the forecasts. We're the only sailboat at the island. Tomorrow we'll check in to the Bahamas and scope things out a bit. Hope to do some diving which is reputed to be good here. Plenty of walls. First order of business however are showers, a cocktail or two, dinner and sleep.
° 40.655' N 73° 31.32' W 07 Nov 2017 20:05 None None None Still too much ESE wind for our intended course. We can either tack back to the NE as tight as possible, motor back to our course when and if the wind dies, or have a lovely sail to the Bahamas. Bahamas here we come!
° 44.608' N 72° 28.99' W 06 Nov 2017 00:14 None None None Another day and night of squalls. Good wind but hard to make our course.
